Academic staff resignation and absences
All academic staff appointments, full-time and part-time, are required to provide a minimum of three months’ resignation notice.
The academic staff may be absent for legitimate reasons known in advance. In such a case the academic staff must do the following:
• The staff member should make arrangements in advance with the Head of Department to find a suitable replacement to cover for missed classes;
• The staff member should not miss more than three consecutive classes for any legitimate reason, which does not include sick leave absence;
• The staff member should not be absent during the examination for any legitimate reason, which does not include sick leave absence.
The academic staff can be unexpectedly absent in the following cases:
• Illness;
• Death in family;
• Other major emergencies;
Cancellation of a class is an absolute last resort and only in the event of an emergency. If a class must be cancelled, the first preference is for an academic staff to make the announcement as best they are able.
